Suggested Use:

Evista is prescribed to women who are at risk of developing osteoporosis and other medical conditions which occur when the woman enters a new period of her life after menopause. Evista is a selective estrogen receptor modulator - the kind of medicine that affects estrogen receptors. Evista prevents loss of bone tissue and helps maintain bone density by restoring female hormones to premenopausal levels and supplying bones with required minerals. It controls the intake of calcium, phosphorus and other elements that your bones need. It also treats some types of breast cancer by inhibiting estrogens.

Before Using This Product:

Before taking this drug make sure that you do not take one or more of the medicines listed below because they may interact when taken with Evista. So talk to your physician if:

  • you take Diazepam, Lidocaine or Diazoxide.
  • you take an anion exchange resin which may diminish Evista’s effect or if you take the female hormone estrogen.

Prescription:

Evista is prescribed to control hormonal levels in women suffering from osteoporosis and should be taken strictly in concordance with doctor’s prescription. Read any directions and instructions that come with the medicine before taking it. Evista is an oral medicine that can be taken with or without a meal. Evista can be taken both for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. In any case you should not stop taking Evista before your doctor tells you even if your symptoms improve. Do not continue taking it longer than prescribed. Evista should be taken at the same time daily. If you use this medicine every day and you missed one dose, take the medicine as soon as you remember. If you missed a dose and it is already time to take another one, do not take two doses at the same time. Take one dose and continue taking Evista as prescribed. Treating osteoporosis can take a long time before the required supply of nutrients and hormones is provided to your bones to ensure their thickness and firmness. Therefore if you have any questions or concerns in the course of your Evista treatment, feel free to consult your medical specialist.

Warnings:

Treatment of osteoporosis may combine use of medicine, special dieting and exercises. Taking of a certain amount of vitamin D (as a food supplement) and calcium (by drinking two glasses of milk) with Evista every day may be very effective, so you should consult your physician about the dosage and the schedule of such treatment. Walking, climbing staircases or other exercises that involve bearing weight can strengthen your bones and is commonly recommended by physicians. Consult your doctor to find out about the kind of exercise that will work for you. Evista treatment requires movement and active lifestyle; therefore it is not for people who spend long hours traveling by car or plane in a seated position or lie in bed. If you do need to go for a long trip while taking this medicine, try to do some exercising, walking and stretching your muscles from time to time as if will help you prevent blood coagulation. Do not take Evista for at least three days before surgery. Evista is not for men or children. It should also be stored out of small children's reach. During your treatment with the help of this medicament your doctor may ask you to take tests and undergo some medical procedures. It is important that you attend all your meetings with your physician as they are required to make sure that the treatment is effective and to keep track of all the changes that happen in your body. Evista is also not for expecting or nursing mothers as it may put your baby at risk. If you become pregnant while taking the medicine, stop taking it and consult your doctor as soon as you can.

Unwanted Adverse Reaction:

As any other hormonal drug, Evista may have some insignificant side effects. Talk to your health specialist if you experience any of the following conditions: excessive perspiration, pain in joints, spasms in limbs, etc. Although Evista treatment is usually well tolerated by most patients and cannot cause a life-threatening reaction, seek for emergency help if you develop: low-back pain, problems with sight, symptoms of flu or cold, swelling of the limbs, haemorrhage, pain in the chest and so on. Evista may cause the following allergic response: skin eruption, swelling, or labored respiration.

Overdose:
