Prescription: Fosamax is used to treat several medical conditions (including osteoporosis) by increasing bone thickness, and preventing fracture and breakage of the bone tissue. If this medicine has been prescribed to you, take it according to the prescription on a daily basis and do not stop taking it ever if you feel better. Do not bite or try to break the capsule or the pill as it may release too much medicine into the body at the same time. Fosamax is an oral drug which should be taken with a full glass of water before breakfast as soon as you wake up. Do not eat for at least half an hour after you take this medicament. It will have even a better effect if taken an hour before breakfast. Do not take it with other medicine, vitamins, or pharmaceutical products at the same time. Fosamax should always be used without a meal in order to insure its effectiveness. Remain in a vertical position for half an hour. You may lie down only after you have breakfast. You may take other medicine with such components as calcium, iron, aluminum, phosphorus, and magnesium half an hour after you take Fosamax or after a meal. The drug should be kept at indoor temperatures, away from excessive humidity and direct sun rays. If you use this medicine every day and you missed one dose, take the medicine as soon as you can. If you missed a dose and it is already time to take another one, do not take two doses at the same time. Take one dose and continue taking Fosamax as directed by your physician. Warnings: If you may develop an allergic response for this medication or any of its components, Fosamax is not for you. Laboratory tests and medical examination may provide required information regarding the progress of your treatment and let your doctor choose the right dosage for you. The common side effects are: pain in the muscles, headache, gas, gastric pain, sickness, retching, or upset stomach. Call your physician as soon as you can if you experience one of the following conditions: a burning sensation in the stomach, sore throat, bloody stool, or pain in the chest. Some people may develop an allergic response to this medicine or its components. Signs of such allergic response are skin eruption, swelling of the face and neck, giddiness, sleeplessness, labored respiration and others. Call for immediate professional assistance as soon as you notice any of the conditions mentioned above. Overdose: If you believe that you overdosed, remain in the vertical position and seek fast medical help even if you do not feel any changes.
