Suggested Use: Lamisil is a very commonly used medicine that treats ungual infection caused by fungi in the toenails and fingernails. This medicine works by preventing the growth of fungi as it was specially made to be very toxic to the infecting microorganisms, while it is absolutely safe for human cells. Before Using This Product: Lamisil is not safe for people who may develop an allergic response to this medicine or any of its components. You should also talk to your doctor if you have a liver or kidney condition which may prevent you from using this medicine safely for your body. If you are an expecting or nursing mother, ask your physician or prenatal care services if this medicine is safe for your baby. Tell your health specialist about other prescription and over the counter pharmaceutical products or food additives that you are taking now. If you have addiction to alcohol or some drugs, consult your doctor. The following medication may trigger adverse reaction if used with Lamisil:
Prescription: Lamisil is produced in the form of antifungal pills and can be taken with or without a meal. Your doctor will most likely prescribe this medicine for 1,5-3 months which depends on the severity of the fungal infection. Naturally, treating an ungual infection is a long process because it takes a long period of time to grow new nails. Therefore, you should continue taking this product even if you do not see much improvement. However, if you stop taking this medication before your therapy is over, it may lead to a new outbreak of the infection because the infectious microorganisms have not been eliminated completely. If you use this medicine on a regular basis and you miss one dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is already time to take it again, do not take two doses at the same time. Take one dose and continue using Lamisil as you doctor prescribed. Talk to your health care specialist if you have any concerns about this product and its dosage. Warnings: Do not take Lamisil with a lot of coffee or coke. Some medical testing might be required for your physician to trace symptoms of adverse reaction or assign the appropriate dosage in your medical condition. Do not miss any tests or meetings with your physician. If you are planning to use Lamisil for your child, talk to a pediatrician to make sure that it is safe. If you are an expecting mother, do not take Lamisil pills. Since this medicine was registered in breast milk, it is not for nursing mothers either. Unwanted Adverse Reaction: In general, Lamisil treats your body, nails and skin around them gently, but as any medication it may still cause some adverse reaction. Some side effects include: upset stomach; strange or foul tastes in the mouth; headache; skin irritation or inflammation; high body temperature; feeling nauseous or sick; loss of energy; stomach upset or retching; vision problems. Sometimes Lamisil can cause allergy which has the following signs: skin eruption, redness, labored respiration, swelling of the facial parts, roughness of the voice. Overdose: Even though your body will most likely eliminate this drug in a fast and safe way, an overdose may occur. Do not take more medicine than prescribed. If you believe that you overdosed with Lamisil, call for emergency help as soon as possible. Mixing with Other Drugs and Foods: Prompt antifungal treatment is essential as it can prevent the infection from spreading fast through the nail plates. However, sometimes patients have to wait till they finish taking one medicine before they start using Lamisil in order to avoid unwanted interactions. Do not take Lamisil with the following medicaments: Tagamet, Rifadin (Rifampin, Rimactane), antiarrhythmic agents, beta-adrenergic blocking agents, monoamine oxidase type B inhibitors, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (fluvoxamine, paroxetine, fluoxetine), tricyclic antidepressants, or anticoagulation drugs.
