Suggested Use: Zyrtec is used for different kinds of allergies. Each kind of allergy is triggered by a different allergen. It is most commonly used for allergic rhinitis - an allergic reaction to small particles, such as pollen and dust during spring or summer, which is characterized by excessive sneezing, watery eyes, and nasal congestion. Zyrtec reduces the inflammation and irritation of the mucous membranes and provides great relief. Alimentary or dietary allergy is a reaction to a food substance. There may also be an allergy to pharmaceutical products, house dust mite proteins, or pets' hair. Small particles capable of inducing an allergy are involved in the appearance of new chemical substances in the body that injure the tissues in it. One of such substances is histamine which is produced by the body tissues in allergic reactions and promotes irritation. Most drugs for allergy and allergy-induced symptoms are antihistaminic agents, and Zyrtec is one of them. Zyrtec is a high-performance medication which starts relieving allergy by inhibiting histamine in less than half an hour. It usually works for twenty-four hours. Before Using This Product: Talk to your physician or consult a specialist from a prenatal center if you are an expecting or nursing mother who is going to start taking Zyrtec. If Zyrtec triggers allergic response in you, do not take this medication. Kidney or liver patients will most likely have to have an additional examination and tests to establish an appropriate dosage that would be safe for their condition. Prescription: When Zyrtec is prescribed to adults, one pill should be taken on a once-daily basis. Children over six may take half a pill twice a day. Children under six may take a fourth of a pill twice a day. Warnings: Do not drive or perform other dangerous activities when using this medicine, as it is known for its calming effect that can cause severe drowsiness. Unwanted Adverse Reaction: As some other anti-allergic medicine, Zyrtec may cause numbness, sleepiness, or dryness of the mouth. If you experience any of these symptoms, call for immediate emergency assistance. Do not take the medicine with alcoholic beverages, as it may increase these reactions. Overdose: If you establish a special time of the day when you take the medicine, you may reduce the risk of overdosing. Do not take more medicine than prescribed as it can only harm your body. In case of an overdose, seek professional medical help. Mixing with Other Drugs and Foods: Do not take Zyrtec if you undergo an antibiotic treatment, as it may cause heart arrhythmia.
